Do you know that a Yogi goes through a major diet change once he or she becomes firmly established on the path of Yoga?
As a living Yogi, I remembered the first shift in my diet happened when I decided to become a vegetarian in January 2007 after taking the initiation as a Nithya Spiritual Healer from my Guru, Paramahamsa Nithyananda (fondly known as Swamiji). My better half was struggling with my decision because he said that many Yoga teachers (referring to my fellow yoga teacher friends) were not vegetarian, why the need to make such a drastic decision. See, the enjoyment of food is one major sense pleasure for him, not able to enjoy food with his wife was too much for him. The purification nature of Yoga just made this decision a natural evolution for me by the grace of Swamiji. Swamiji cautioned us that anything you eat, that becomes you! One part of what you eat becomes your bones, muscles, flesh, blood, words, thinking, feeling and your Being! Food plays a vital role in our life, not just the body-mind, but also in our consciousness.

Are you aware of your root cognitions?
Many of us carry certain root cognitions that form the basis how we respond to life. What you strongly believe as you is the root cognition. Basically, root cognition is a mental pattern which drives your thinking even before you recognize the quality of your thinking.
For example, some people carry the root cognition that “Life is suffering” or “Life is depression”, so even before they start solving any problem in life, the root cognition already sets the base of the battle-field. Root cognition is the line where the fight between you and your life starts. With this wrong root cognition, you can never experience joy, bliss, completion because the fundamental belief is wrong which has to be completed. So understand the importance of having the right fundamental root cognition.

This food topic came about as right now, I am undergoing through a 9-day process called Nirahaara Samyama which is an ancient yogic technique to go beyond hunger and thirst. This process aims to help human beings explore and discover their possibility to be without any external input like food and water. This process is about awakening our body’s capability to produce food and energy from sun rays, prana and ether. We had this natural intelligence to create food directly from sun rays and ether but we have forgotten this bio-memory. When this bio-memory is awakened, we will feel highly energetic for no reason without any external food intake. Interestingly through this process, I began to have a deeper understanding about our mental patterns related to food.
